4th Grade Visit to the Middle School

Next week all fourth grade students will visit the Middle School.  Mrs. Terpay (Lippe) and Ms. Meitz will take their students on Wednesday, May 16.  Miss Cargill, Mrs. Monroe, and Mrs. Ries will take their students on Thursday, May 17.  The visit will begin at 10:45 and end at 12:15. All students will eat lunch at the Middle School.  If your child normally brings a cold lunch, they can take their lunch to the Middle School.  If your student normally gets hot lunch, they can still get hot lunch at the Middle School.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

State Projects

The last few weeks, each student has been researching on one of the fifty states.  We have read books and searched for information on the Internet.  Then students wrote a report about their state.  This week, we have been learning about different kinds of poetry and the students have been writing poems about many different topics.  Next week, students will chose one of the kinds of poetry they learned and write a poem about their state.  As a final project for our state project, students are going to make a collage about their state.  They can draw pictures, write words, cut pictures from magazines or find pictures online to print.  Please help your child by asking them what state they are studying and helping them find things they can include in their collage.  We will be doing this in class too, so if you can’t find anything, don’t worry.  For example, I have been using Pennsylvania as an example for the class.  Since Pennsylvania has the largest chocolate factory in the world, Hershey’s, I may include a Hershey’s wrapper on my collage.  I want the students to have fun and be creative with their projects!

Welcome Ms. Grifka!

We have had the pleasure of sharing our classroom with a student teacher from Eastern Michigan University.  Her name is Katie Grifka.  She began her student teaching in our classroom at the beginning of January and will be with us through the first week of March.  She would love to meet all of you, so if you are at Woodworth, please stop in and say hi!

Welcome to Miss Cargill’s 4th Grade Class!

Hello!  Welcome to our classroom webpage!

This is my 8th year teaching at Woodworth Elementary. I started out teaching in the HUGS preschool program for two years and then moved to my current position as a 4th grade teacher.

I graduated from Alma College in 2003 with my Bachelors Degree and from Michigian State University in December 2011 with my Masters Degree.

I am having a great time getting to know all the students in our class and look forward to the rest of the school year!

~Miss Cargill
